In our electrophysiology lab, we perform many high-end tests to discover the sources of functional complaints. Head-Up Tilt Test(HUTT) is one of them. A tilt table test is used to evaluate the causes of repeated, unexplained episodes of lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting (syncope). The test tries to trigger the patient’s signs and symptoms in a controlled clinical environment, while the patient’s heart rate and blood pressure are being monitored and analyzed by a doctor.
The test can help determine if the symptom’s cause is related to the heart rhythm or blood pressure changes and defines the ways how to fix it, prevent any dangerous falling or accidents in the future, or recommend any additional tests to exclude other causes of fainting.
The results of a tilt table test are based on whether you faint during the test and what happens to your blood pressure and heart rate. During the procedure, both the blood pressure and heart rhythm are monitored and analyzed, while the patient is tilted on a table at varying levels. If the patient has symptoms while being in the upright position on the tilt table, the part of the nervous system that controls blood pressure and heart rate suddenly lowers them for a short time. Less blood flows to the brain, possibly causing to faint.
Depending on the results, your doctor might recommend additional tests to exclude other causes of fainting. Our xMed labs are ready to perform any additional needed tests, and xMed cardiology specialists are prepared to treat it immediately.
